Benamahoma River Trail
Our guided tour starts with a beautiful 30 minute drive into the mountains of Sierra de Grazalema to the picturesque village of Benamahoma, where we embark on a 2 hour hike through an old forest.
The route is shaded, gentle and easy, following the Rio Macajeite downstream. A few refreshing baths can be taken throughout the walk to boost your energy. The waters here have been acclaimed through the centuries for their medicinal proprieties. On a lucky day, you might catch a glimpse of trout in the river. The walk ends up in the sweet village of El Bosque where you can stop for a drink or a meal at one of the cafes in the village square.
The mountain range of Grazalema is located between the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga. It used to be a border zone in the period of the Arab Kingdom of Granada and the Christian Kingdom of Castilla during 13th and 14th centuries.
Typical for the landscape from this region is the dramatic positioning of the culturally rich white villages, scattered on the top of the mountains.
