The Daily Programme
You will enjoy two yoga classes daily which will focus on movement, gravity, breath and deep relaxation. Each day will begin with early morning meditation and pranayama in the yoga shala. This will be followed by a two hour hatha flow class and then breakfast.
The evening yoga will be a more restorative and softening scaravelli practice, working on releasing area’s of deep rooted tension and resistance, allowing emotional blockages to unfold and reawakening the body from deep within. The classes will be suitable for all levels and experience.
Suryalila has an inspiring, spacious and fully equipped yoga shala with wooden floors, a beamed ceiling and plenty of light and air. A magnificent dome yoga shala has also been built recently. This breathtaking space with underfloor heating has a dome window with breathtaking views across the rolling hills. There will be the opportunity to practise in both places during your stay.
Throughout the day you will be offered three delicious vegetarian meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Suryalila kitchen specialises in gourmet international vegetarian cuisine, using the freshest seasonal, locally-sourced organic fruits and vegetables available, artfully prepared in a varied and truly eclectic international menu.
Between yoga classes there will be the chance to explore the beautiful natural surroundings or simply relax by the natural saltwater swimming pool with views of the surrounding hills or in a hammock in the shade of the olive grove. During the week there will be one yoga free day.
Lara has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 10 years. She was originally trained by the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Canada and has since gone on to train with Erich Schiffmann (Los Angeles, USA), The Krishnamacharya Mandiram (Chennai, India),Tias Little (Santa Fe, New Mexico) and John Stirk (London, UK) who is both her teacher and mentor.
By combining Hatha yoga with the softness and grace of Scaravelli yoga, she has developed a flowing style with special attention placed on breathing and alignment to help soften and heal the body from the inside. Lara puts her sensitivity as a teacher down to a strong one-to-one approach. She is able to adapt yoga to the individual rather than the individual to yoga, enabling students to explore postures in greater depth and work on individual areas of resistance, alignment and practice.
Lara aims to provide a safe, nurturing environment to allow her students to develop their own understanding of yoga in an enjoyable way. She believes one of yoga’s greatest gifts is helping to heal the inside by helping our minds to become more peaceful, and opening our hearts to compassion and a positive attitude. As in all physical yoga, the student will increase strength and flexibility and, by uniting body and breath, will learn to move from moment to moment with absolute awareness.
