Nestled in the Andalusian countryside, Suryalila is surrounded by stunning nature spots perfect for hiking, forest bathing and river swims. On this retreat you’ll explore Las Lomas and El Bosque, famous for it’s refreshing rock pools and dazzling array of Mediterranean flora and fauna.

Delicious vegetarian cookery class

Our delicious and nutritious food is the jewel in the crown at Suryalila. Focussed on organic and seasonal produce, with many ingredients grown on our own farm, you’ll learn how to prepare vibrant and healthy vegetarian and vegan meals with our Head Chef Gemma Russell.

Inspiring permaculture garden tour

Join our farm manager Jacob Evans for an inspiring tour around Danyadara, our nonprofit onsite educational permaculture farm and food forest helping to regenerate the land in rural Andalusia. Flourishing with fruits and vegetables as well as innovative organic farming methods, you’ll learn how to become self-sufficient, grow your own food, nurture your own green spaces and live a life connected to nature.

Meet our yoga teachers

Vidya Heisel

Vidya Jacqueline Heisel, E-RYT 500

Vidya Jacqueline Heisel, E-RYT 500, SYT, is the Director of Suryalila Retreat Centre and the Director of Frog Lotus Yoga International Yoga Teacher Training Programmes.

Vidya grew up in England, and lived in India, Bali and the USA, before arriving in southern Spain in 2011. Yoga has been Vidya’s life-long passion. She started studying, practicing and teaching yoga in 1975 and since then has taught yoga extensively worldwide. After founding Frog Lotus Yoga Studio in Massachusetts in 2002, Vidya created a comprehensive Yoga Teacher Training programme, which she has taught at retreat centres around the world. Vidya currently runs most of her Yoga Teacher Training Programmes, retreats and holidays at Suryalila, where she resides. Vidya’s other interests include nutrition, gourmet vegetarian cooking and interior design, all of which she joyfully expresses at Suryalila. Vidya was one of the founding partners of Suryalila. She oversees the running of Suryalila and upholds and manifests the vision.

Jo Cone

Jo Cone

Jo Cone is a super relaxed and progressive teacher. Happily modifying for beginners while challenging more advanced movers in the same space. It’s yoga for EVERYBODY. She is also a licensed acupuncturist weaving together Chinese Medicine theory and Western Medicine anatomy with traditional asana.

Joanna Gilbert

Joanna Gilbert

Joanna’s passion is to share mindful-movement, infused with breath awareness, combined in a light-hearted playful way.

She first trained in 2015 with Vidya in the Frog Lotus Yoga vinyasa style. She combines her vinyasa foundation with a variety of other practices; inviting deeper awareness of subtle sensation and more consciousness to how we interact with the world around us. Inspirations are drawn from, Scaravelli Yoga, Yin Yoga, Ecstatic dance, heart mediation and Thai massage.

Joanna’s yoga practice began in a hot yoga studio, initially interested more in the physical benefits. Later she was guided by her love of yoga to India, Thailand and Mexico, where she was introduced to different schools and elements of yoga, and how it could all be experienced off of the mat.

Pia Kristina Herberg

Pia Kristina Herberg

Pia is a yoga alliance certified yoga teacher, an architect, a thai masseuse, a world traveler, adventuress, and lover of life. Born in Germany she is living to travel the world and to share her loving kindness to all beings. As a yoga nomad you can find her teaching on different retreat centers in Spain and Sri Lanka or preparing her own retreats. She loves to teach Ashtanga Vinyasa Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga classes to experienced yogis, but what she loves even more is introducing new people to the world of yoga in an accommodating and non-judgmental way so you will feel completely at ease even if you can’t even sit straight.
